Dr. Jenny Bingham Receives Exemplary Patient Care Award
Jenny Bingham (Cook), a PharmD UA Graduate of 2010, was presented the Exemplary Patient Care Award by the Arizona Pharmacy Association (AzPA) during a ceremony on June 11.
She served as a hospital pharmacist from 2010-2013, and joined the Medication Management Center at UA in 2012. Her primary areas of research focus on the delivery of MTM services through chronic care management, care transitions, and virtual pharmacotherapy consultations. She has coordinated novel programs with numerous organizations, including Assurance Health, Banner Health, Tucson Medical Center, Arizona Connected Care, and most recently the Epilepsy Foundation.
Bingham received peer recognition during the ceremony for her role as the pharmacist Transition of Care Coordinator for the award winning Discharge Companion Program, an interdisciplinary program that collaborates with a local hospital specifically designed to improve the continuum of care and reduce all cause readmission rates for patients 30 days post-hospital discharge. The program will gain national attention from both the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid this year as it was chosen by the Health Service Advisory Group to be featured in their annual SQUIRE report. Since the program’s inception in 2015, it has demonstrated robust outcomes, including reduced readmission rates at the 30, 60, and 90 day period post discharge; reduced cost per Medicare beneficiary; and, an outstanding return-on-investment.
Dr. Bingham also serves as a mentor to other pharmacists, at both the community and national level by acting as the chair-elect for the American Pharmacist Association’s Telehealth SIG Committee and a second-year post graduate ambulatory pharmacist residency preceptor through the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
