Marinone is a mixed polyketide-terpenoid metabolite from the marine
isolate Streptomyces sp. CNH-099. This cytotoxin has a very unusual
structure and represents a good model system to study the biosynthesis
of a mixed polyketide-terpenoid metabolite in a streptomycete for
future engineering experimentation. We have just started to study its
biosynthesis at the molecular level after completing stable-isotope
labeling experiments.
