Moore Group Research Projects

Research in the Moore group is in the area of natural products biosynthesis. Two major themes are investigated: (1) the biosynthesis of biologically active marine microbial natural products, and (2) the study of symbiotic bacteria associated with marine invertebrates and their potential for producing invertebrate-derived metabolites. Research is conducted at the chemical, biochemical, and genetic levels. Thus, the lab consists of researchers with a wide range of expertise. Students will be exposed to a variety of experimental techniques, including the synthesis of labeled biosynthetic intermediates and enzyme substrates, the isolation and characterization of natural and engineered metabolites, the cloning, sequencing, and expression of biosynthesis genes and pathways, and the overexpression of recombinant proteins.
