Students are accepted under the Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products and the Pharmacology and Toxicology programs. Although students are typically supported as research assistants, prospective students are encouraged to apply for individual predoctoral fellowships through the NIH, NSF, Howard Hughes, and other agencies.
Several postdoctoral positions are available immediately to genetically engineer natural product-based small molecules for drug discovery, to study novel enzymes involved in the assembly and tailoring of polyketides, and to study natural product biosynthesis of symbiotic bacteria associated with marine sponges. Experience in bacterial genetics, recombinant protein techniques, assay development, site-directed mutagenesis, enzyme kinetics, and the biosyntheis of bacterial metabolites preferred. Our current projects are well supported by the NIH, NOAA, and ACS-PRF. Send CV and list or references to Dr. Bradley S. Moore, Division of Medicinal Chemistry, College of Pharmacy, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ 85721-0207. E-mail: moore@pharmacy.arizona.edu. Postdocs will be encouraged to apply for individual fellowships through the NIH, NSF, and other agencies.
Undergraduate researchers play an important role in the group, and we usually host 1-3 students a year. Students are expected to work at least 15 hours per week during the academic year and full-time during the summer. Students are not given menial tasks, but are rather encouraged to develop their own project. Preference is given to students enrolled in the UA Undergraduate Biology Research Program. Students are also encouraged to apply for research fellowships at the American Society of Pharmacognosy.
