Center for Toxicology
Since its founding in 1987, active, interdisciplinary research has been the hallmark of the Center for Toxicology at The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. The center is the home for the research and training toxicology programs at The University of Arizona.
Collaboration among scientists at UA and across the world has created a timely exchange of knowledge and a worldwide understanding of the importance of toxicology studies. Blending chemistry and biology, the objectives of the center are
- to understand the processes by which chemicals affect people
- to identify factors that influence those processes
- to develop preventive or therapeutic measures to reduce any toxic effects.
The Center for Toxicology includes:
- Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center (SWEHSC), a center for environmental toxicology research
- The University of Arizona Superfund Basic Research Program, a collaborative research program to address hazardous waste problems in the Southwest
- U.S.-Mexico Binational Center for Environmental Sciences and Toxicology, a center addressing common environmental health and science problems on the border.
- Research Training in Toxicology and Toxicogenomics, a program providing cutting-edge interdisciplinary research experience to the emerging generation of toxicology researchers.
