Medication Management Center

The Medication Management Center adds an innovative program to an already nationally recognized college of pharmacy. MMC is a first-of-its kind pharmacist-run call center providing medication therapy management services. It was established in 2006 in response to Medicare Part D and is supported by the UA College of Pharmacy. Our call center pharmacists are highly trained and appointed faculty in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science.

The center provides medication thereapy management (MTM) services that increase the quality of health care and help reduce healthcare costs. Learn more about our services, educational programs and research on the following pages.

What is MTM?

Medication therapy management is a personalized service designed to optimize health outcomes for individual patients. At the Medication Management Center, pharmacists work directly with patients, their providers, and community pharmacists to ensure optimal treatment while reducing the risk of adverse events and drug interactions. Pharmacists will also look for opportunities to reduce the cost of medication treatment.

New, but experienced

Pharmacists at the MMC have extensive experience in delivering clinical services to patients with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, congestive heart failure, hyperlipidemia and diabetes through their work with Medicare Part D patients. The pharmacists at the center have a combined 50 years of community pharmacy experience and 20 years of experience with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

MMC pharmacists are trained by and work directly with pharmacists from the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center, a pharmacist-run and pharmacist-staffed call center. The first center of its kind in Arizona, the poison center has remained a part of the College of Pharmacy for 50 years. Its pharmacists are experts in providing clinical services over the phone.
