PhPr 815 - General Goals and Objectives

Goals

  1. To develop a pharmacist who can select, initiate, and monitor drug therapy to help ensure the best therapeutic outcome for a patient..
  2. To develop a pharmacist who can accurately and efficiently interpret media and literature to provide drug information in a practice setting.
  3. To develop a pharmacist who has good professional judgement in problem identification and problem solving.
  4. To develop a pharmacist who has communication skills needed for effective interpersonal professional relationships.

Objectives
At the completion of this rotation, the student should be able to:

  1. Retrieve, evaluate and communicate, in writing and verbally, specific drug information to health care professionals.
  2. Provide information about medications and devices to patients.
  3. Obtain the appropriate background information regarding signs and symptoms of the patients' illness and past and current drug therapy in order to select and/or recommend specific drug therapy.
  4. Communicate verbally and in writing specific recommendations regarding outcomes of drug therapy.
  5. Utilize pharmacokinetics parameters in monitoring drug therapy.
  6. Utilize assessment parameters needed to monitor drug therapy and identify beneficial and adverse outcomes.
  7. Discuss the role of the pharmacist on the health care team.
  8. Effectively communicate with non-health care professionals.
  9. Identify patients who require clinical services.
  10. Prioritize the amount of clinical services required by patients
  11. Prepare and give a formal presentation. To meet this objective, at least one presentation shall be given during each PhPr 815 rotation. A copy of the outline developed for the presentation must be submitted to the director of experiential programs with the final evaluation and grade.
