Goals
- To develop a pharmacist who can select, initiate, and monitor drug therapy to help ensure the best therapeutic outcome for a patient..
- To develop a pharmacist who can accurately and efficiently interpret media and literature to provide drug information in a practice setting.
- To develop a pharmacist who has good professional judgement in problem identification and problem solving.
- To develop a pharmacist who has communication skills needed for effective interpersonal professional relationships.
Objectives
At the completion of this rotation, the student should be able to:
- Retrieve, evaluate and communicate, in writing and verbally, specific drug information to health care professionals.
- Provide information about medications and devices to patients.
- Obtain the appropriate background information regarding signs and symptoms of the patients' illness and past and current drug therapy in order to select and/or recommend specific drug therapy.
- Communicate verbally and in writing specific recommendations regarding outcomes of drug therapy.
- Utilize pharmacokinetics parameters in monitoring drug therapy.
- Utilize assessment parameters needed to monitor drug therapy and identify beneficial and adverse outcomes.
- Discuss the role of the pharmacist on the health care team.
- Effectively communicate with non-health care professionals.
- Identify patients who require clinical services.
- Prioritize the amount of clinical services required by patients
- Prepare and give a formal presentation. To meet this objective, at least one presentation shall be given during each PhPr 815 rotation. A copy of the outline developed for the presentation must be submitted to the director of experiential programs with the final evaluation and grade.
