Preceptor News - Spring 2008
Jamie Joy moves into new downtown Phoenix office
Jamie Joy has officially moved into the downtown Phoenix office. Her office is located in the College of Pharmacy on the first floor of the TGen building on 5th Street.
We are adding a new section to our website with info about the Phoenix campus. There will be info about the health sciences library in Phoenix, contact information for the college, interdisciplinary seminar info and more. Our goal with this is to facilitate the dissemination of pertinent info to both students and preceptors in the Phoenix area. We hope you find it helpful!

Just for Preceptors!
We have added a new reference sheet to our website called “Quick Reference Sheet for Preceptors”. It is located under the tab “Rotation Information” and includes information about how to log on to our electronic system (EMS) as well as information about drug information requirements for the students and how to access the online rotation manual.
Free CE Program: The Community Pharmacist Preceptor Education Program from NACDS
Check out this CE Program that offers 3 CEU’s and is specific for preceptors in the community pharmacy environment. It reviews many aspects of a community pharmacy rotation from appropriate student activities to communication skills. There is even a sample rotation schedule given that might just give you some ideas for your rotation. If you aren’t located in a community pharmacy environment, this CE program is still worth checking out as it reviews many topics important to all types of rotations such as mentoring, characteristics of an excellent preceptor and conflict resolution.
Questions about the website, EMS, or rotations in general?
Please feel free to contact any of Kevin, Jamie, Rebecca, or Lynda if you ever have questions related to locating a topic on our website, how to access or use our electronic system, or rotations. We are here to help you!
Online Rotation Manual Updates
We have continued updating the Online Rotation Manual with the ultimate goal of making it more streamlined, with links between related topics, to be user friendly for you!
The "Community Rotation" page has been revised with a new suggested task list. The "Policies and Expectations" and "Institutional Rotation" pages were revised last fall. A new "Checklist for all Rotations" has been added. Revisions to the manuals and task lists for the other required rotations ( Adult Acute Care and Ambulatory Care) are coming over the next few months. Hopefully, all will be in place before the start of the new rotation year in May 2007.
We envision that students, starting rotations in May 2007, will download the Checklist for all Rotations and the applicable goals/objectives checklist (for required rotations only) at the beginning of each rotation. These are to be used by the student and preceptor as a guide for rotation activities. You don't have to wait until May - Feel free to start using them as soon as they appear on the Web site.
Thank you to the preceptors that reviewed and offered comments on the initial drafts of the new checklists. If any of you have comments/suggestions for further revison of them or the information in the online manual, please let us know at any time. Contact Rebecca Malone at 520-626-4506 or rmalone@pharmacy.arizonale.edu.

Rotation Web site
Every preceptor and student has his or her own unique log-in that grants access to rotation lists, important forms (evaluations, intern hours, professional leave requests, etc.), and contact information. Other than the "Intern Hours Report" which still requires signatures and hard copies sent to the Experiential Office, the entire process is Web-based.
