Establishing a scholarship
You may use cash, bonds or stocks to initiate a scholarship gift, as well as real estate, bequests, insurance, trusts and other legal instruments. As the donor, you decide the basic terms of the award, such as award level, student eligibility requirements, merit or financial need. Scholarship amounts awarded to individual students at COP range from $250 to $2,000 or more.
There are several ways you may establish a scholarship at the College of Pharmacy
- A One-time Scholarship is a gift of a specific amount given by a donor for a specific purpose for a specified period of time.
- A Continuing Scholarship involves an agreement with the donor to provide an annual scholarship to the college for no less than five years. Funds for the scholarship must be received by June 1 of each year to be awarded to a student(s) in the fall semester. The scholarship can either be named after a donor or established as a memorial to a relative or friend.
- An Endowed Scholarship is established with a gift of $25,000 or more. The principal is invested in pooled funds at the UA Foundation and the annual payout is used to fund scholarships. An endowed scholarship exists in perpetuity, leaving a legacy for the future while benefiting current students. The scholarship is generally named after a donor, for example, the Jack R. Cole Scholarship Fund.
