Michael Dietrich spoke about AzPA, SSHP, and Mid-year meeting

Dr. Dietrich is the assistant dean of professional programs and associate professor of pharmacy practice at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy – Glendale. He holds a bachelor of arts in history from Tulane University and a doctor of pharmacy from Xavier University of Louisiana. He completed pharmacy practice and infectious diseases residencies at the University of North Carolina and an infectious disease fellowship there.

 

Dr. Dietrich joined the MWU-CPG faculty in 1999 and has been an active role model for the practitioners and students for the past 10 years.  He teaches and coordinates the Infectious Diseases pharmacotherapy portion of the required curriculum and two electives at MWU-CPG.  In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Dietrich is also a clinical pharmacist at Scottsdale Healthcare where he is responsible for the development and implementation of an Antimicrobial Stewardship Team and staff development and education.  His practice interests include infectious diseases pharmacotherapy, bacterial resistance, fungal pharmacotherapy, curriculum development and professional service.

Dr. Dietrich is a nationally recognized speaker on antimicrobials and stewardship.  He is a member several speakers’ bureaus and has given hundreds of professional presentations to a wide variety of audiences.  He has presented for the ASHP foundation as a “CE in the Morning” Speaker on two occasions.

He was honored as the Midwestern University College of Pharmacy – Mentor of the Year for 2008.  In addition, he’s held several leadership positions at the local, state and regional level.  He is currently the chair for the Health-Systems Academy of the Arizona Pharmacy Alliance (AzPA) and has served two terms as treasurer for the Arizona Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (AzSHP).  Dr. Dietrich is also a member of Phi Lambda Sigma and Rho Chi.  He remains active in many pharmacy organizations including ASHP, ACCP, SIDP and AACP.

 

Speaker of the month: Daniel P. Hays, PharmD, BCPS

Daniel P. Hays, Pharm.D., BCPS was the founding emergency pharmacist at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY, and served in this role through completion of the AHRQ research project studying the effect of a pharmacist on patient safety in the Emergency Department. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Minnesota in 2000. Dr. Hays started as a staff pharmacist at Strong Memorial Hospital where he developed clinical services within the department of emergency medicine. Dr. Hays was the chair of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (Emergency Pharmacists section) advisory group for the Clinical Scientists and Specialists Network. Dr. Hays has transitioned from the University of Rochester at the end of August 2008 to take a new position as an Emergency Pharmacist at the University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson, AZ where he holds a dual appointment in both the College of Pharmacy as well as the Department of Emergency Medicine. He is also the current director of the Emergency Medicine pharmacy residency program and serves on several key medical center committees.

A record 17 teams participated in the clinical skills competition, with Megan McKee and Rachael Richmond moving on as the UA competitors at the skills face-off during the ASHP Midyear Meeting in Las Vegas.

AIDS Walk 2007

This year 22 University of Arizona College of Pharmacy  students and faculty or staff members joined more than 5,000 walkers and runners on the Oct. 14 walk to combat AIDS.
