Prepharmacy Club: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to questions concerning membership, the listserv, meetings, events, the roles of officers and elections.

Membership

How do I join?

To become an official Prepharmacy Club member, all you need to do is:

What is the difference between a member and an active member?

A member is a member of the club who has filled out a registration form and has paid his or her dues. An active member is a member who has filled out a registration form, paid dues, attends club meetings if and when possible and attends club events. An active member also makes sure he or she is aware of what happened at club meetings, even if  he or she cannot attend.

Where can I pick up a registration form?

Registration forms are available before and after all club meetings. They can also be picked up from the dean's office in the College of Pharmacy.

Where can I return the registration form?

Registration forms can be returned to any officer before or after any club meeting. They can also be returned to the dean's office in the College of Pharmacy.

I didn't receive an envelope with my registration form. What do I do with it?

If you did not receive an envelope with your registration form, simply bring it to a club meeting and hand it to any of the club officers. You can also bring the form to the dean's office in the College of Pharmacy to return.

How much are club dues?

Dues are $25/year at the first meeting and $35/year after that.

Does being in the Prepharmacy Club guarantee me a spot in UA's College of Pharmacy when I apply?

No. Being a club member has many benefits, but this is not one of them. However, being in the Prepharmacy Club gives you the chance to see the college, get to know some of the college staff and it gives the staff a chance to get to know you as well. Being a club member also gives you the chance to learn about applying to pharmacy school and the pharmacy field. Being an active member of the club also gives you the chance to show the college that you are dedicated to serving to others and interested in meeting other potential pharmacists.

Prepharmacy Listserv

How do I get added to or removed from the listserv?

E-mail Adam Hollingsworth and request to be either added or removed accordingly. Please do not send a message to the listserv asking to be added or removed.

I've requested to be added to the listserv, but am not receiving listserv e-mails. What do I do?

The first thing you should do is check your junk mail filter. Most of the e-mail service providers, especially Hotmail and Yahoo, tend to classify any e-mail which comes from a listserv to be considered junk. If you spot a listserv e-mail in the junk mail folder, open it and change your settings to allow listserv e-mails to come to your inbox. (With most e-mail providers this is as easy as opening the e-mail and clicking on a button that says something like "This is not junk".) Granted, even if you tell it 20 times that e-mails from this listserv are ok, it may still filter them. In that case, be sure to check your junk mail folder every few days. If you have another e-mail address, you could always put in a request for that address to be added to the listserv.

If you've checked your junk mail folder and still don't see any listserv emails, please e-mail Adam Hollingsworth and ask to be added to the listserv.

I've requested to be removed from the listserv, but am still receiving listserv e-mails. What do I do?

Before submitting another removal request, check to see which e-mail address the e-mails are coming to. If you aren't submitting your request with the correct e-mail address, you can't be removed. If you have multiple e-mail addresses and you're not sure which one is subscribed, include all of them in your removal request e-mail.

I have something I'd like to send out through the listserv. How do I do that?

In order to send out an e-mail through the listserv, you need to send a copy of what you'd like sent out to Anna Hernandez, the club advisor, and get her approval. If she approves what you'd like to send, then she will sent it out through the listserv.

Meetings

When is the next club meeting?

All of the club meeting dates are listed on the Calendar and Meetings pages on this Website. Please visit one of those pages to find out when the next club meeting is.

I missed the last club meeting. What did I miss?

After each club meeting, the meeting minutes are sent out via e-mail through the Prepharmacy Club listserv. The meeting minutes are also posted in the Meeting Archives sections of the Web site. As the meeting topics vary from one meeting to the next, please check one of these locations to find out what you missed.

I can't attend the club meetings because I have a class scheduled during that time. Can I still be a part of the club?

Yes. Just be sure that you are added to the Prepharmacy Club listserv in order to figure out what you missed at the meetings and to find out about upcoming club events. Members who can not attend the meetings, but who still attend community service and social events are still considered active members.

I have an idea for a meeting topic. How do I go about submitting it for review?

E-mail Cinthia Reyes and CC the e-mail to Anna Hernandez. Your idea will then be discussed and may or may not be used as a future meeting topic.

The College of Pharmacy is far from the main campus. Why can't the meetings be held somewhere on campus that is more convenient?

While other locations may be more convenient, the meetings are held at the College of Pharmacy in order to give students the chance to see the college and meet some of the college staff. By holding the meetings at the college, the club meetings become more than just a meeting; it makes attending meetings an experience.

Events

What events is the club having this month?

All of the club community service and social events are presented at the monthly club meetings, sent via e-mail through the listserv and can be found on the club Web site. Since the club offers different events each month, please consult the Calendar or Meeting pages to find out what events are being offered for the month.

I'd like to participate in a club event. How do I sign up?

You can sign up for events in one of two ways:

I noticed that some of the club events are held off campus, but I don't have a car. How am I supposed to get to the events?

For club events that are held off campus, transportation is provided by those members who can and are attending the event. A meeting place is chosen (usually on the front steps of the college) and those who are attending the event meet there and then split up to go to the event.

Do I have to attend club community service and/or social events?

No. Club community service and social events are not required, but are recommended because they give members a chance to give back to the community, have fun and get to know one another better. Remember, what you put into the club is what you get out of it.

I have an idea for a club event. How do I go about making it a club event?

If you have an idea for a club event, there are a few ways to go about seeing if it can be made into a club event. E-mail the activities coordinator, Caryn Clark, and CC the e-mail to the club advisor, Anna Hernandez, and propose your idea. You can also present your idea during a club meeting if there is time. Unfortunately, not all ideas can be turned into club events, but all proposed ideas will be considered.

What do I have to do to become an officer?

In order to become an officer, all you have to do is give a speech during elections which includes your name, what office you are running for and anything else you would like to add. It is recommended, but not required, that you be an active member if you plan on running for any officer position. It is required that you are a UA student; however, if you are attending Pima Community College and will be transferring to UA, you are allowed to run for an officership provided that you will be enrolled at UA during the year you would serve as an officer.

Are there any open officer positions?

No. All of the officer positions for the 2005-2006 school year were filled during the April 2005 elections. Should an opening arise, it will be announced through the listserv and elections will be held for that position at the next club meeting.

When are elections for the Prepharmacy Club?

Elections for officers are generally held in April at the last meeting of the school year. If there are any open officer positions at the beginning of the school year, elections are usually held to fill those during the September meeting. If an officer position opens up during the school year, elections for that office will be held at the next club meeting.
