Dean, 1987-Present

Dean Bootman, a member of the Class of 1974, became the second alumnus to be appointed dean. After serving as acting dean for three years, Dr. Bootman was appointed dean in 1990. A faculty member since 1978, Dr. Bootman is founder and executive director of the Center for Health Outcomes and Pharmacoeconomic Research. Dr. Bootman served as the 1999-2000 president of the American Pharmaceutical Association, the nation's largest organization of pharmacy practitioners, scientists, educators and students. He also received the 2000 Latiolais Honor Medal, one of the nation's highest healthcare honors, and has been named one of the 50 most influential pharmacists in the nation by The American Druggist magazine. He has published hundreds of articles and several books, including the first "Principles of Pharmacoeconomics," which is used in more than 35 countries and has been translated into five languages. Dr. Bootman holds the rare honor of membership in the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine (IOM). This membership is only offered to unique professionals who have made significant contributions to health and medicine. Dr. Bootman is one of only a few pharmacists nationwide ever chosen for service in the IOM, and only the third faculty member in the history of the UA to receive this honor. He also serves as an advisor to several pharmaceutical companies and professional organizations.
