Haakon Bang, PhD

Haakon Bang

Dean, 1950-1952

Dean Bang served his first day as dean on July 12, 1950. Leaving a post as professor at the College of Pharmacy at Washington State University, Dr. Bang wasted no time in forging ahead with Rufus Lyman's plan to establish a five-year curriculum leading to a bachelor of science degree. In September 1951, Dean Bang's work paid off when the Arizona Board of Regents and the university administration approved the five-year curriculum. Dr. Bang also was known for his strict professionalism, once deriding the wearing of blue jeans by pharmacy students as beneath their professional stature. Dr. Bang left the UA in 1952 when he was offered deanship of the College of Pharmacy of Washington State University, his alma mater.
