Rural Health Professions Program
Early Experience for Pharmacy Students
Student Information
The Rural Health Professions Program is an opportunity to participate in a salaried internship in a rural location of your choice. In addition to the experience of working and studying in a rural area, RHPP also offers the opportunity to experience a diverse patient base and unique disease states that are specific to certain regions and communities. RHPP students also have priority selection for their rotations between second and third years.
Here's how it works:
- Students participate in a 4-week paid internship in a location of their selection. These sites must be rural in nature--no Phoenix Metro area or the surrounding Tucson area.
- After this original 4-week internship, students are asked to return to the same site for an early rotation between their second and third years of the PharmD curriculum. RHPP students are given priority site selection (before the 4th-year students).
- And finally, students have one of their mandatory 4th-year rotations in the same rural setting.
All of these rotations are opportunities for students to work in various pharmacy settings. There are regional medical centers, independent pharmacies and retail pharmacies to choose from.
RHPP pays for your housing during your 4-week internship as well as during your early 3rd-year rotation.
